Scope of duties
This position is responsible for the efficient and effective accounting function of the Group. The Chief Accountant is responsible for the development and improvement of the company’s accounting system, including chart of accounts and system reports.
Responsibilities
- Sets, develops and continually improves the company’s chart of accounts, accounting systems and related reports in cooperation and agreement of the CFO.
- Monitors and controls the Possible Disputes Notifications (PSNF) process.
- Arranges Cash payments as required.
- Approves commission payments.
- Liaises with other departments for clarifications/improvements/problem solving.
- Works closely with the IT Manager to identify and implement improvements to Danaos.
- System, Accounting Modules and NavTech Software.
- Identifies and corrects any mistakes identified in Danaos Invoicing or any other Module.
- Ensures adequate checks and controls are maintained to ensure quality and consistency of bookkeeping followed within accounting department.
- Ensures that adequate documentary evidence is available in support of bookkeeping entries as well as for the purposes of audit by external auditors and in compliance with legal requirements.
- Ensures timely completion of month-end and year-end procedures within accounting department in accordance with CFO guidelines.
- Provides accounts and cost analyses as required by CFO and management.
- Maintains adequate systems and procedures for timely preparation and dispatch of customer invoices.
- Maintains adequate systems and procedures for timely processing of supplier invoices.
- Maintains adequate accounting systems and procedures for effective and timely budget monitoring.
- Prepares various reports regarding processing of supplier invoices and informs responsible departments, as part of the follow up for outstanding invoices not processed.
- Liaises with and responds to information requests regarding accounting and taxation matters as required by customers, suppliers and government authorities.
- Ensures implementation of the Management System in the area of the responsibilities.
- Implements the Company’s Management System and makes suggestions for improvements.
Required Qualification / Competencies
- University Degree in Accounting and/or Finance or other Business or Finance related subject
- Member of a recognized professional accounting body (ACCA, ACA or equivalent)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar position
- Excellent knowledge of accounting, financial management, costing and budgeting as well as related systems and procedures.
- Excellent computer skills of accounting and spreadsheet packages
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
- Good people and management skills and excellent command of the Greek and English languages
- Leadership qualities
- Team mentoring ability
